BIG TRAVEL CHALLENGE VIDEO

We had an unbelievable response to our Travel Challenge for February. The challenge taken up by the children was to walk to school for fifteen days during the month. The figures were recorded each day by our Green School committee and it was fascinating to see the improvement achieved.

On three of the days we had fun events i.e. Fancy Dress/Walking Bus to promote participation. We had our first Walking Bus on Friday 13th February and all the children  dressed in their favourite jersey or top. Incredibly, despite the rain, 196 children out of a possible 212 walked to school or 92% of the pupils attending St. Peter’s. This far exceeded our expectations and great credit must go to children, teachers and parents for the efforts they made. Thank you to the mums and dads who helped steward the event and to Henry, Mary, John and James from Dromiskin Tidy Towns who made sure the children were safe.

Our second day was even better with 200 out of a possible 211 present walking representing 95% of our pupils. Fantastic!! We took an aerial picture of  the children forming the letters “AG SIÚL” to mark this special event and to promote our message. Many thanks to Eamonn Gosling from Masterpiece Aerial Photography for his patience and expertise. As you can see the picture that Eamonn produced is stunning. On our 3rd day we had 199 out of 207 walking which again represented 95% of all the pupils in the school.

Imagine our surprise and joy when Dromiskin was chosen as “Walking School of the Year 2015” by an Taisce. Click HERE for more details
